Our house is a Georgian town house in the heart of St Anne. It is built on three storeys and comprises of a traditional pub contemporary restaurant, a private dining room, secluded garden and three guest bedrooms...
Our ethos is simple - a friendly face with a smile, delicious food, attentive service and supporting the local community.
The Georgian House is one of the longest running restaurant and hotel establishments on Alderney. From the days when it used to be an old coach house in the 1800’s to the modern and high class restaurant, guesthouse and function facility it is today.
The place is simply soaked in history and has a long tradition as a hotel. An architect staying at The Georgian House some thirty years ago believed the building to be over 230 year old. He based his opinion on the strip of decorative key-work, long since replaced through decay, beneath the gutter across the front of the house. He stated as a matter of fact that that particular form of decoration came into vogue during the early part of the reign of King George the Second from 1727 to 1760. Sadly nearly all the early history of many of the buildings in Alderney was destroyed during the German occupation during the Second World War.
Geoff Rennard bought the hotel and named it The Georgian House in 1974, prior to this there were various other owners and names including ‘The Commercial Hotel’ and ‘Riou’s Temperance Hotel’ when a tariff for a room with bed, breakfast and evening meal was £7.50 with 50p extra for an en-suite room! Geoff not only enhanced the appearance of The Georgian but built the foundations on which its reputation is still standing strong on today.
The Georgian House still remains in the family and is well loved by visitors and locals alike. It undertook a major refurbishment of the entire property a few years ago, incorporating a mix of old and new that has maintained the traditions of the past with the elegant Walpole Room to the contemporary and airy Orangery now a well known restaurant and function room that overlooks the popular Georgian garden.
